Midway there, the engine lost power with no warning lights or anything, and then seized on the side of the interstate. After that (a complete other long story) I finally got it back and had to take it along for a trip to Wisconsin. So then I purchased a newer engine (from a junked 2000 Concorde, same size engine) and also had the oil pump replaced and a few other things. He took it in the next day and found that the whole lower half of the engine would have to be rebuilt. My mechanic is also my neighbor, and upon his street inspection, he could tell it was really messed up. It refused to start, so I was forced to leave it in a turning lane (As there was a curb to prevent me from pushing it off the road) I added 2 quarts of oil and it didn't start until about 20-30 mins later. Before I made it even a quarter mile (I was trying to baby it into my work's parking lot so I could add some oil) it shut down on me. Immediately after, the oil light came on and stayed on, even when I'd push the gas. The engine revved really high but didn't shift at the normal time. A couple weeks later, I decided to "be a teenage guy" and floor it off the line at a stoplight. Because it just flickered, I suspected it was just due to me idling.
I noticed during idling, especially once I got off the interstate, that the oil light would flicker. I drove this car all the way to April 2010. Standing at 6'3", I could easily fit in the backseat.
1999 chrysler concord lxi upgrade#
I loved it because it was such a large vehicle, and being so tall, it was definitely a size upgrade from my first car. It was an LXi so it had leather, sunroof, etc. Freon charge with sealant finally did the trick, and it no longer leaks.įor a $25,000 car, I have been very pleased, and would purchase another Chrysler vehicle.I bought this car from an estate sale in January 2009. Good fit and finish on all body panels, and no exterior rust after 14 years in Michigan winters.Īir conditioner lost some freon charge annually, and I added cans as required to keep it charged to the correct pressures. Handling is nimble and sporty for a car of this size. Very respectable power and torque for a 4 speed transmission and 3.2L V-6 engine. ft.).Ĭab forward design pushes the wheel well back into the area where your left foot needs to rest while driving, and it's uncomfortable. Still attracts attention for its beautiful styling.īest car I have ever owned for value and low cost operation. * Accessory and power steering drive belts. * Floor shifter ignition/park interlock (recall). * Repaired transaxle leak and added vent tube. * Both skirts that tie rods pass through in the engine comp. I should have listened to my intuition and philosophy of never buying American when it comes to automobiles! I owe $1,200 left before ownership pay off. So far it has been a financial and stressful nightmare, leaving me lacking confidence with a little paranoid state of mind every time I turn it on! I purchased / financed it off a Honda dealership for $3,500 and invested around $8700 in repairs. Replacing the crankshaft and cam sensor did not do the trick until I replaced the vacuum hose connected to the cruise control module so far that did the trick. Have to let it cool off for 30 minutes before it normally starts. Throughout the 24 months of ownership, the car has had hard crank issues, such as when running normally after stopping and attempting to start, it would always start hesitating, missing or sounding like it's flooded.
Within the first 2 weeks had to replace the water pump - $600, I know, wrong mechanic! Within six months, replaced the heads for $2,000, six months later had to replace the computer module for $1,600, and within 5 months after that, had a rebuilt transmission costing $2800.
